If you have ever loved a cat, you probably understand that the bond goes far beyond feeding, playing, or having a little companion around the house. Cats become part of our lives in ways we sometimes don’t realize until something goes wrong.
They recognize our presence, find comfort beside us, and quietly become part of our everyday happiness. They may not speak our language, but they communicate through their trust, their affection, and the little ways they make us feel less alone.
Imagine waiting for a companion who never comes home. Imagine searching, hoping, and wondering whether they are frightened, hungry, or somewhere wishing they could find their way back to you. And then imagine finally finding them, only to discover that the little life you had been praying to see again is now fighting through pain and illness.
That is the reality behind JB’s story.
My name is Shawn, and before I tell you about JB’s medical journey, I want to share something personal with you.
Approximately three weeks ago, JB went missing. When I came home and realized he was nowhere to be found, I began searching and hoping that he would somehow find his way back to me. Those three weeks were incredibly difficult. I struggled with anxiety, sadness, and the uncertainty of not knowing where he was or whether he was safe.
To some people, JB might be just a cat. But to me, he is so much more than that. He has been my companion and my emotional support through moments when I needed comfort the most. His presence has meant more to me than words can fully explain. Not knowing what had happened to him left an emptiness that was difficult to put into words.
Then, JB was found on the streets, and what we discovered was heartbreaking.
He was carrying a severe internal parasite burden, with damage to his intestinal lining. He had lost nearly 40% of his healthy body weight and was struggling to keep food down. Seeing him in that condition was devastating, especially after spending weeks wondering where he was and whether I would ever see him again.
Finding JB brought relief, but it also began a new and difficult chapter: helping him recover.
His recovery requires much more than a single injection or one visit to the veterinarian. It involves a carefully guided veterinary care plan, including diagnostic tests, stabilisation, treatment, support for intestinal healing, gradual weight recovery, and, when medically appropriate, core vaccinations and a long-term parasite prevention plan.
Some of you reading this may already know me and understand how much JB means to me. Others may be discovering my story for the very first time, perhaps from another part of the world. Wherever you are, I want you to know that behind this fundraiser is a deep bond, a difficult experience, and a cat I am doing everything I can to help.
But this is about more than one cat. Somewhere in the world, another cat is waiting for treatment. Somewhere else, a kitten needs a safe home, a frightened animal needs someone to care, and a beloved companion needs medical attention that its owner may struggle to afford.
My hope does not end with JB. I want his story to be the beginning of something bigger — a community where cats facing medical emergencies can receive help, regardless of where they are in the world. They cannot ask us for help in words. Sometimes, all they can do is depend on the kindness of people who are willing to notice their suffering.
I believe humanity is not measured only by how we treat one another, but also by how we treat the vulnerable lives entrusted to our care.
You don’t have to be wealthy to make a difference. You don’t have to change the whole world in one day. Sometimes, helping one little life is where a much bigger change begins.
Today, that little life is JB.
If his story touches your heart, please stand with us. A donation could help bring the care he needs within reach.
Let’s make compassion something animals can experience, not just something we talk about.
One life at a time. One act of kindness at a time. One paw at a time.
Thank you for taking the time to hear my story, for caring about JB, and for giving us hope during a difficult time.
With love and gratitude,
